Questions we hear most

Garmin Golf Simulator FAQs

How much does a Garmin golf simulator cost?

Garmin launch monitors start at $499.99 for the Approach R10 and go up to the Approach R50, Garmin's all-in-one camera unit with a built-in simulator. A complete Garmin golf simulator package with an enclosure and impact screen starts at $1,449.98 with the R10.

Also budget for software. Home Tee Hero virtual rounds need a Garmin Golf membership, which Garmin prices at $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year. Third-party simulators such as GSPro, E6 Connect and Awesome Golf have their own pricing, so check those if you plan to use one.

Garmin R10 vs R50: what's the difference?

The R10 is a small radar unit that sits 6 to 8 feet behind the ball and sends data to the Garmin Golf app on your phone. It tracks over a dozen metrics, runs up to 10 hours on a charge and is the budget pick.

The R50 uses three high-speed cameras, sits beside the ball and has a 10-inch touchscreen with Home Tee Hero built in. It tracks more than 15 ball and club metrics, including measured spin rate and spin axis, records impact video and connects to a projector by HDMI. Its battery lasts up to 4 hours.

Do Garmin launch monitors require a subscription?

For simulator play, yes. Garmin requires a Garmin Golf membership to play virtual rounds or practice on virtual courses in Home Tee Hero, and for the weekly tournaments. The membership is $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, and Garmin includes a free 30-day trial. Third-party simulators like GSPro and E6 Connect have their own pricing.

Does the Garmin R50 work with GSPro?

Yes. Garmin lists GSPro, E6 Connect and Awesome Golf as compatible third-party simulators for the R50, and the R50 connects to them over its built-in Wi-Fi. These programs are separate from the Garmin Golf membership and have their own pricing. If you'd rather skip a separate program, the R50's built-in Home Tee Hero simulator plays on the unit's own screen or on your projector. For the R10, Garmin lists E6 Connect compatibility.

How much space do I need for a Garmin golf simulator?

It depends on the model. Garmin says to place the R10 on the ground 6 to 8 feet behind the tee, and indoors the tee must be at least 8 feet from the net or screen. That means at least 14 feet from the R10 to the screen. The R50 sits about 1.5 feet to the side of the tee, so nothing goes behind you.

For ceiling height, Garmin says to make sure nothing blocks your backswing or follow-through. Our SIG10 enclosure needs a room at least 12 feet wide and 12 feet deep with 9-foot ceilings. Taller players may need more height, so take a slow practice swing in the room first.

Is the Garmin R50 a golf simulator by itself?

Yes. Garmin calls it the only portable golf launch monitor with a built-in simulator. Home Tee Hero comes preinstalled, so no phone is needed, and the 10-inch touchscreen shows the course. For a full-size picture, connect it to a projector or monitor with an HDMI cable (not included with the R50). Course play needs a Garmin Golf membership. For a complete room, add an enclosure, impact screen and hitting mat, or choose one of our R50 packages.

Can you use the Garmin R10 as a golf simulator?

Yes. The R10 pairs with your phone and runs Home Tee Hero, Garmin's simulator with more than 43,000 courses, through the Home Tee Hero app for iPhone and Android. Garmin also lists E6 Connect compatibility. Simulator play needs a Garmin Golf membership. Our R10 SIG packages add the enclosure, impact screen, golf mat and projector, so you get a full-size picture instead of playing on your phone.

Can Garmin launch monitors be used outdoors?

Yes. Both are portable. Garmin designed the R10 for use at home, indoors or at the driving range, and the R50 for garages, basements and the driving range. The R50 comes with a carrying case and its battery lasts up to 4 hours. The R10 battery lasts up to 10 hours.
