The Competitor is a 3' x 9' putting and chipping green from Big Moss, handcrafted in Spring Grove, Illinois. Big Moss calls its Competitor greens a best-seller, and this is the standard, most compact size. Putt or chip back and forth in the comfort of your home or office, then compare it with the longer Competitor Pro and Pro TW in our Big Moss putting greens collection.
Train on progressively smaller holes
Every Competitor Series green has three cups: a 2-inch hole, a 3-inch hole and a regulation-size cup, with a plug for each hole. Putting at progressively smaller targets is a mental technique professional golfers have used for decades. Hole the 2-inch cup and the regulation cup looks much bigger on the course. Plug the holes you are not using to focus on one target at a time.
What the V2 changed
- Wrinkle-free surface: a new rubber-backed surface, about 28% heavier, that lays flat even over carpeting.
- Removable foundation: a higher-density foundation lets you practice dead-flat putts.
- Break Pads: place them under the surface to create hundreds of terrain variations.
- Stadium backstop: wraps around the green and pins in place with golf tees.
- Upgraded chipping mat, plus new cup sleeves and flag bases for the regulation cup.
The cup configuration is unchanged.
Indoors or out
Big Moss's V2 owner's manual says the V2 surface is weather resistant, so all V2 greens are safe for outdoor use. Indoors, it performs best on hardwood, tile, concrete or low-pile carpet. Thick, heavily padded carpet can make the green flex slightly underfoot, though Big Moss says the roll stays true. Vacuum it regularly, and store it in a loose, even roll with nothing heavy on top so the surface does not crimp.
Quick setup

This is a great putting mat. It easily lays flat right out of the box and has a good roll. This will definitely improve my putting confidence. The backstop could use some work which is reason for the 4 star.
