SkyTrak Buyer's Guide
Since it has been released, SkyTrak has quickly become one of the most popular launch monitors for recreational golfers. It enables you to get the accuracy of much more expensive commercial products like Trackman and Foresight but for a fraction of the cost. Additionally, the software options available make it a perfect solution for golfers looking for an affordable home golf simulator.
In this guide, we will go through a few of SkyTrak's key features, and why it may make sense for your simulator setup.
One of the key features of SkyTrak is that it provides extremely reliable golf ball data. It uses photometric technology, which makes it a better solution for indoor usage versus radar launch monitors like Trackman and Foresight.
Golfers can expect to get a very accurate representation of their ball flight in addition to carry distances, spin rates, ball speed, and several other key pieces of information.
While it does not provide golf club data such as the path of your swing or angle of attack, it can give you an estimate of your swing speed which will be very close.
Simply put, you are not going to find another launch monitor that can give you this kind of data accuracy indoors at this price ($1,995).
Endless Software Options
One of SkyTrak's major selling points is its software options.
For golfers looking to improve their practice, they offer a virtual driving range that will allow you to sharpen your skills. If you are looking for a challenge, they have a players skill assessment, closest to the pin, and longest drive feature. They can be accessed by subscribing to their Game Improvement package for $99/yr.
If you are looking for full golf course simulation there are plenty of options as well.
For PC users, you can access the following software suites:
- Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf
- The Golf Club Game
- Creative Golf 3D
- Fitness Golf
If you are a Mac User then you can gain access to the popular World Golf Tour by subscribing to the Play & Improve package for $199/yr.
These are all fantastic options for a full simulation experience, and you can read more about them in our guide to golf simulation software.
This is one of SkyTrak's key differentiating factors. There aren't any other products on the market that allow you to choose this many simulation options.
In order to safely swing a golf club indoors, you will need a room that has enough space. SkyTrak recommends having 10 feet of length and width available. Ceiling heights could vary based on your height and swing plane - generally, a good rule of thumb is to have a minimum of 9 feet.
Additionally, users should know that there is a slight delay in SkyTrak's ability to show ball data. You can expect anywhere from 4-8 seconds based on your computer. Here is a video to give an example:
Other things you should know:
- If you are going with a software package on PC you will need to meet minimum requirements for processor speed and video graphics cards
- SkyTrak only supports iPad integrations with the following models: iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 3
- If you decide to use an impact screen with a projector, that will be an additional cost
What Will a Full Setup Generally Cost?
