Golf Mats at The Indoor Golf Shop

Golf Mats and Hitting Mats for Golf Simulators

A good golf hitting mat lets you hit down and through the ball without jarring your wrists and elbows, and it gives your launch monitor a clean, consistent strike. We make our own SIGPRO Softy mats in-house, and we also carry Fiberbuilt and TrueStrike. Pick a 4' x 10' mat if right- and left-handed golfers share the room, a 4' x 7' or 5' x 5' mat for tighter spaces, a low-profile mat for low ceilings, or a rubber-base commercial mat for daily use. Most of our mats have a replaceable hitting strip, so you replace the strip, not the whole mat.

How to Choose a Golf Mat

Start with your room. Measure the ceiling, decide whether lefties and righties will share the mat, and check where your launch monitor sits. Then match the mat type below. A mat raises you 1-1/4 to 2.5 inches, so height matters in a low room.

Questions we hear most

Golf Mat FAQs

What is the best golf hitting mat for a home simulator?

For most home simulators we recommend the SIGPRO Softy. The 4' x 10' has stance areas on both sides, so right- and left-handed golfers can share it, and the 4' x 7' fits smaller rooms. Both use a replaceable 28" x 12" Softy strip that takes a real tee. The Softy 4' x 10' was also our best-selling golf mat of 2026.

If you want a rubber-base mat with a turf you can hit down and through, look at the Fiberbuilt Grass Series studio mats. For a commercial bay with heavy daily use, the SIGPRO Super Softy is the better fit, with its rubber tile base and longer 48" strip.

How much does a good golf mat cost?

Golf mats on our site start at $99 for a small Fiberbuilt practice mat. Full simulator mats with a stance area and hitting strip cost more, and large commercial and combo systems cost the most. A cheap mat can feel hard and wear out fast, which leads to sore elbows and wrists. We suggest buying a mat with a replaceable hitting strip, so you replace the strip instead of the whole mat when it wears.

What size golf mat do I need for a golf simulator?

The most common simulator mat sizes are 4' x 7' and 5' x 5'. These work well when one golfer, or golfers who all swing the same way, use the room. If right- and left-handed golfers share the space, choose a 4' x 10' with a center strip and a stance on each side. Fiberbuilt also makes 9' x 4' center-hitting and 10' x 4' double-hitting studio mats, and combo systems up to 10' x 16'.

How does a golf mat affect ceiling height?

Your mat raises you off the floor, so it takes away ceiling clearance. The SIGPRO Softy is 2.5" tall, the Fiberbuilt 7' x 4' studio mat is 2" high, the SIGPRO 3D is 1.6", and the Softy LITE is only 1-1/4". We consider 8 feet the absolute minimum ceiling for most simulators, and 9 to 10 feet is recommended. If your ceiling is close to 8 feet, a low-profile mat like the Softy LITE gives you back some room.

Can you use a real tee on a golf mat?

On many mats, yes. The SIGPRO Softy 4' x 7' and 4' x 10', the Super Softy mats, the Commercial Teeline, and the Fairway Series all take a real tee. The Softy LITE mats do not, because the strip is topped with putting turf, so use an accessory tee. The SIGPRO 3D has four tee insert locations and works best with a simulator tee or a TeeClaw. Fiberbuilt hitting panels have four tee holes for rubber tees or friction-fit tee holders.

What is the best golf mat for elbow pain?

Look for a mat with a soft, forgiving hitting strip. A hard mat does not give like real turf when you hit a shot a little fat, and that impact goes into your wrists and elbows. The SIGPRO Softy strip has a soft foam core under 1" Teeline turf, a flexible ABS polyurethane layer, and three compression slots that release air at impact. Fiberbuilt Grass Series panels and TrueStrike's gel section are also built to let you hit down and through.

Can I use a golf hitting mat outdoors?

Some mats are made for outdoor use and some are not. The SIGPRO 3D is waterproof and heat resistant and is built for ranges. The Super Softy and Commercial Teeline mats are listed for indoor or outdoor use, and TrueStrike mats are designed for both. The SIGPRO Softy, Softy LITE, and Fairway Series are made for indoor use. Even with an outdoor mat, we recommend a covered spot and bringing the hitting surface in when bad weather is coming.

Which golf mat works best with a launch monitor?

Match the mat to where your launch monitor sits. Floor-unit optical monitors like Foresight or SkyTrak need room beside the ball, and the Fiberbuilt 7' x 4' studio mat includes a 2' spacer for that. Center-hitting mats suit down-the-line radar units like TrackMan and FlightScope. Monitors with large hitting zones, like the Foresight Falcon, pair well with the SIGPRO Commercial Teeline or the Super Softy's 48" strip.

Should I buy a hitting strip or a full golf mat?

A full mat includes the base, the stance area, and the hitting surface, so it is ready to use out of the box. A standalone hitting strip makes sense in two cases. You can replace a worn strip in a SIGPRO Softy mat instead of buying a new mat, or you can set a strip into a DIY simulator floor built from gym tiles and turf. The Softy strip measures 28" x 12" x 2.5" and takes a real tee.
